Membership & Organization


American Veterans Christian Alliance is federally recognized under the Internal Revenue Code as a 501(c)19 war veterans organization and under the California Revenue and Taxation Code as a 23701(w) war veterans organization.  We are incorporated in the State of California as a Nonprofit Religious Corporation.

We are currently an All-Volunteer organization. We first encourage support of your local churches and other already well established charitable ministries. We are supported solely by annual memberships, special events and accept donations to help us meet the objectives of our mission and vision, build membership, develop a national organization, provide veteran outreach efforts, and to maintain an internet presence.

Donations are tax-deductible.

Membership

AVCA has two categories of membership:

General Members – a category of members who are war veterans as defined by the Internal Revenue Code and the Unites States Code (see below). General Members are required to submit proof of military service by certified copy of their Form DD-214 or equivalent for consideration for a position as an executive or director within the organization.

Associate Member – a category of member with military service during peacetime. These members may also be required to submit proof of military service.

$30.00 per year – currently accepting mail-in memberships.

Qualifications

Who are considered past or present "members of the Armed Forces" for purposes or Internal revenue Code IRC 501(c)19?;

IRC 7701(a)(15) defines the term "Armed Forces of the United States" as:

Military and Naval Forces and Armed Forces of the United States.-- The term "military or naval forces of the United States" and the term " Armed Forces of the United States" each includes all regular and reserve components of the uniformed services which are subject to the jurisdiction of the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of the Army, the Secretary of the Navy, the Secretary of the Air Force, and each term also includes the Coast Guard.

Veterans are defined as present or former members of the United States Armed Forces.

Members of the National Guard and the Reserve Forces are also considered veterans. See Rev. Rul. 60-65. 1960-1 C.B. 21.  This would include members who are on active duty or are honorably separated from the National Guard.

War Veterans

"War veterans" are defined in Rev. Rul. 84-140 as persons who have served in the United States Armed Forces during a period of war. The periods of war are specified in 38 U.S.C. sec. 101 and Rev. Rul. 78-239, 19781 C.B. 162.

Ø      April 6, 1917 and ending on Nov. 11, 1918 (World War I)

Ø      Dec. 7, 1941 and ending on Dec. 31, 1946 (World War II)

Ø      June 25, 1950 and ending on Jan. 31, 1955 (Korean War)

Ø      Feb. 28, 1961 and ending on May 7, 1975 (Vietnam War)

Ø      Aug. 24, 1982 and ending on July 31, 1984 (Lebanon / Grenada)

Ø      Dec. 20, 1989 and ending on Jan. 31, 1990 (Panama)

Ø      Aug. 2, 1990 through today (Gulf War / War On Terrorism)

(11) The term ''period of war'' means the Spanish-American War, the Mexican border period, World War I, World War II, the Korean conflict, the Vietnam era, the Persian Gulf War, and the period beginning on the date of any future declaration of war by the Congress and ending on the date prescribed by Presidential proclamation or concurrent resolution of the Congress.

(12) The term ''veteran of any war'' means any veteran who served in the active military, naval, or air service during a period of war.
