Our Common Christian Doctrines

It is with the knowledge and understanding that there has been and continues to be doctrinal and theological differences and disagreements within Christendom that have separated one from another those who earnestly and humbly seek the truth that is in Christ alone, Jesus of Nazareth. It is not in naivety, or a movement to form a syncretistic compromise at the expense of pursuing truth, or an attempt to disregard and discount these valleys of separation, but a call to the recognition that we all breathe from the same life-giving air of absolute truth between those valleys found in God alone through his Son, the one mediator between God and man, the Way, the Truth and the Life, the Word made flesh.

Nowhere is the call to unity for the sake of witnessing to the world, the love of God, more evident than in the prayer of Jesus in the Gospel of John 17:20-23, “I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me.  And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me.”

The following starting point of common doctrines is the basis of uniting in this alliance to promote, evangelize and share the Christian faith with our fellow veterans, members of the Armed Forces of the United States, the citizens of America, and the citizens of the world. As we prayerfully promote and encourage dialogue between the denominations, research and gain knowledge of the doctrines and theology which are held in common by the various denominations, we will add to this list of affirmations.
